Ways to Help The Island School
As a charter school operating under a charter from the Lee County School District, The Island School receives a portion of its operating costs from the Lee County Board of Education. Each year it must raise the difference between what it receives per student from the county and the real cost of that student’s education. The ways you can help support a quality education on Boca Grande include:
Annual Fund – By making a tax-deductible donation to the Annual Fund, you help to support the operating costs which include salaries and benefits, utilities, textbooks, standardized tests, and supplies.
PTO – Parents and teachers join together each year to organize a wide variety of entertaining and productive events. Its activities raise both friends and funds for The Island School. Your support of the PTO’s golf cart wash, rummage sale, Island School art show, and Flamingo Flocking help make the school a very special place.
Endowment Gifts – In 2009-2010 gifts will be sought to build an endowment fund to insure the long-term future of The Island School. Income from the endowment will ease the pressure on each year’s annual fund-raising. Please contact Director Vicky Winterer for further information on making an endowment or planned gift.
Volunteering – The well-educated population of Boca Grande makes important contributions to the life and curriculum of The Island School. To find out how you might share your special interests with the students, contact Volunteer Coordinator Dodie Headington.
