Curriculum

The Island School provides an innovative environment which enriches the lives of its children, parents and community.  The Island School's curriculum is compliant with Sunshine State Standards.  In our multi-age community classroom, learning is approached through group meetings, one-on-one instruction and individual goal setting.  The goal is to see that each child has mastered the material in a "real world" context.  Knowledge is gained through the in-depth study of concepts, team planning and the documentation of the process and product.  The emphasis on teaching at The Island School is "Teaching for Understanding."  The teachers, as facilitators, create a program for children based on their interests, needs and learning preferences.
